SoCCs Empower Adolescents at DOMUS
More than one out of every five are disengaged and disconnected in the state of Connecticut. Often times, these youths have suffered immense trauma like the death or incarceration of a parent, abuse, poverty, domestic violence, housing instability, gang violence and more. They frequently experience the threat of incarceration or have already experienced it. They are typically the ones who need the most love and guidance, but are frequently ignored by most.
To help these disenfranchised kids, AI has teamed up with Domus to help these kids stay engaged and connected. With our innovative SoCC program, the participants of a 5-week trial program will learn essential life skills like resume writing, developing a budget and goal setting. Children constitute the foundation of society and we here at AI firmly believe it is vital for everybody to receive an equal opportunity to achieve success. After attending a lecture, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of tasks. These tasks include developing a personal budget, creating a resume or setting three goals for themselves to gain SoCCs. In turn, they can redeem these SoCCs for individual endeavors such as a voucher for school supplies or an opportunity to attend a class they are interested in. They can also pool their SoCCs and redeem for a group activity like an outing to NYC.
In the fall, AI hopes to roll out the SoCC program to hundreds of students across the state of Connecticut. We aim to ensure all of the youth of Connecticut remain actively engaged in learning despite their socio-economic background.
