Asia Initiatives

Asia Initiatives is excited to host our 17th Annual Gala, where we are pleased to welcome the Eighth United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who will present the Award for Women's Empowerment to Chelsea Clinton, of the Global Clinton Initiatives and Susan Blaustein of  WomenStrong International. This will be a night to celebrate not only our honorees, but to celebrate the women in our projects who have done amazing work to lift themselves and their families out of poverty and transform their communities.

As Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation, Chelsea Clinton works to create greater opportunities for people to build better futures for themselves, their families and their communities. Clinton is a tireless advocate for the empowerment of girls and women. As the author of She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World and the companion She Persisted Around the World, Clinton promotes the stories of empowered women for children, ensuring that young girls and boys have positive female role models. Additionally, she is focused on expanding access to early childhood education, improving the health and well-being of Americans across the country and providing the next generation of young leaders with the resources they need to turn their ideas into action.

Dr. Susan M. Blaustein is the Founder and Director of WomenStrong International, a consortium of non-governmental organizations in five countries dedicated to eradicating extreme urban poverty by enabling women and girls to live healthy, fulfilling lives. WomenStrong provides support, builds bridges and shares innovative and successful strategies that can make a difference around the world. WSI Consortium members work in impoverished urban settings in Ghana, Haiti, Kenya, India and Washington, D.C.
